Dot Bingham

Dot died peacefully on Thursday 5th December with all her family around her.

Dot was a club member that contributed to the club competitively as well as from an administrative point of view. Both Dot and her late beloved Husband Charles were members for over 50 years. They both served on the Club Management committee as well as participating in their favourite pastime of Crown Green Bowling.

Dot was a founder member of the very successful Ladies Bowling League, and later became President of the league and was at the forefront of Ladies Bowling at PCTBC. Competitive was her middle name but she was also a character that many of us will remember. I can see her now striding across the green in pursuance of her woods with liquid refreshment to hand! I had the personal pleasure of being part of an infamous trio’s team with Paul Milligan and Dot in charge. Dot telling Paul to aim at the tree and Paul replying what tree? Dot required fortifying with her favourite tipple prior to castigating both of us for not taking it seriously.

She was known locally for her campaigning against anything she felt was not right. Two spring to mind; the closure of Claremount nursing home on Bury New road and the opening of Tesco with its obvious affects on Prestwich Village (how right she was). Irene Burwin reminded me the other day that all the local MP’s knew Dot well and dreaded open question time as she was always there with her hand up to ask the awkward question.

Rest in Peace Dot and thanks for the memories.

Dot’s funeral is at Radcliffe Crematorium on Wednesday 18th December at 3.00pm.
