3RD XI PROVIDE THE BRIGHT SPOT

Rain decimated last weekend’s fixtures but the third team supplied a ray of sunshine by progressing to the next round of the GMCL Premier Sunday Cup.
They bowled Thornham out for 82, with the wickets equally spread – two each for Dylan Kane, Karl West, Hassnain Ashfaq, Anees Arif, and Finlay Lester.
Prestwich were 64 for 2 (Luke Prescott 29 not out) in reply when rain intervened, but this was enough to give Prestwich victory as they had already reached the DLS target.
The 1st team endured a frustrating day in their Derek Kay Cup game at Whalley Range, with several rain interruptions (photo shows one of them!). The home side struggled to a total of 66 from their reduced number of overs. Prestwich made 27 for 1 from 3 overs, but another shower burst left the game unfinished. After initial deliberations over whether the game would have to be decided on a bowl-out, the match is now being replayed this Sunday.
Both Saturday games for the 1st and 2nd team were washed out, while the 1st’s clash with Flixton Fire on Friday night lasted just 13 overs before rain won the day, the visitors having reached 122 for 6 (Sam Holden 4 for 20).
The 2nd team – known as Prestwich Patriots – had started their T20 campaign last Thursday, losing by 23 runs to Winton Warriors. The Warriors were dismissed for 135 with Luke Prescott taking 4 for 20, but Patriots ended on 112 for 7, Dan Ahern top scoring on 33.
Prestwich Heat have no game this Friday after their T20 game away at Monton was forfeited by the opposition, while Prestwich Patriots are scheduled to play their first T20 home match tonight (Thursday) against Worsley Bombers -weather permitting of course.
