Successful Centenary Event

The bowling section of PCTBC had a successful centenary family bowling event on Saturday 10th May, despite the terrible weather forecast.

Many bowlers turned up to play in the family tios, which should have consisted of a youngster, a non bowler and an experienced bowler, but there was not enough youngsters or non bowlers to play the trios, so we held a pairs knock out instead.

As luck would have it, we managed to get the competition finished, with just two heavy showers interrupting the games.

Commemorative centenary bowling towels were given out on the day to all the bowlers. Refreshments were supplied by the committee and also a successful raffle was held.

Despite the weather, everyone had a good time, especially the youngsters, who were shown how to play bowls. Two of the youngsters, Thomas Prosser aged 14, is already an experienced bowler, playing for the Manchester County Youth team, and Samuel Evans, 9 years, who has been learning to play recently. Jack Nelson and Macey Jo also 9, were very new to the game, and all of the youngsters did very well indeed.

The Runners up of the pairs knockout were Janet Austin and John Armstrong, who by the way, came dressed for the occassion, wearing his suit, as did many of the men bowlers 100 years ago!

The winners were Stuart Cameron and Trevor Williams.
