An unbeaten century from Danny Pawson stoked Prestwich Heat to success in the Marsden T20 Final today.
An exhilarating exhibition of power hitting saw the all-rounder blast 110 not out in just 59 balls.
With Lee Dale making 44, the Heat total of 194-2 proved too hot to handle for the West Wildcats.
Two wickets each for Sam Holden, Ryan Stanbury and skipper Sam Holden restricted West to 94 all out .
But equally telling was the overall fielding display: Danny Ahern, Tom Gibson and Ryan Stanbury all taking excellent catches.
The same applied to the earlier semi-final when Prestwich Heat proved 70 runs too good for Clifton Kingfishers, with some top-class fielding on view, none more so than a superb lunging catch at long-on from Steven Lorenzini.
Clifton had been chasing a target of 157 for 8 after Prestwich pro Ali Azmat made an impressive 76 and Pawson 44. Ryan Barker took four wickets in the same over to peg Prestwich back towards the end, and this included a hat-trick.
Pawson was again in the thick of the action as Clifton’s reply was never allowed to prosper. He took 4 for 13, Azmat 3 for 26, and Bradley 2-15 as Clifton was dismissed for 87.
Sunday’s performance was in stark contrast to the 1st team’s abject showing against Woodhouses in the GMCL Premier League on Saturday.
Despite a quickfire 49 from Dale, and a slow-burning 39 from Holden, the home side limped to 123 all out, Nick Hardman taking 5 for 38.
Woodhouses rarely looked in trouble as they passed the target with seven wickets to spare, former Prestwich player Alex Spender top-scoring on 42.
Prestwich 2nds lost to a strong Winton 1st team on Saturday who stacked up 233 all out (Peter Lorenzini 4-57, Tom Robinson 3-45, Uwais Khaliq 2-14).
Prestwich made 175 for 8 in reply, mainly thanks to 74 from opener Haris Aziz.
However, Prestwich Patriots tasted T20 success last Thursday when they beat United Stars by 22 runs. Patriots made 111 for 6 (Aziz 34, Qasim Memon 33) and then shot down United Stars for 89 (Memon 3-16, Luke Prescott 3-19).
Last but not least, the third team were back in action on Sunday and registered a remarkable victory against Bury 3rds.
Looking dead and buried at 74 for 9, in pursuit of Bury’s total of 119, Hassnain Ashfaq crashed an unbeaten 36 in 26 balls, including six fours, and a six to win the game. He was well supported by Anees Arif (7 not out) in the unbroken 47-run partnership.
Earlier, Bury had been dismissed for 119, with Ashfaq also starring with the ball, taking 4 for 23. Josh Ahern and captain Karl West both claimed two wickets each, while Umar Arif claimed 1 for 9 off 8 overs.
