Sub pro Daryn Smit continued his influential role snapping up a five-wicket haul and top scoring with 64 to spearhead Prestwich 1sts to victory over Woodbank.
He was part of a five-star batting performance as four other batsmen also hit half centuries to post a daunting 311-6 from 50 overs last Saturday.
As if Sam Holden’s 58, Danny Pawson’s 57 and James Wharmby’s 56, was not enough, Ryan Stanbury blasted 52 off 20 balls (5 sixes and 5 fours).
Holden (pictured) was chalking up his 50th fifty (including 6 tons) for the first team, only four others have scored more in post-war records (Mark Whelan on 77, Craig Duxbury 55, Steve Orrell 54, and Ken Morgan 53).
Smit then grabbed 5-51, supported by Andy Bradley (3-38) and Danny Pawson (2-22) to dismiss the home side for 156.
Prestwich 2nds were out of luck in the league and their opening T20 game last Thursday.
On Saturday, they restricted South West Manchester 1sts to 171 for 9 – Tom Scott taking 4-33, and Stephen Ritchie 4-42.
But after Alex Taylor (36) and Cameron Mapstone (25) put on 50 for the first wicket, it was all downhill and were dismissed for a disappointing 113.
In the T20 clash against Heaton Bulls, Prestwich Patriots (2nd XI) set a target of 138 for 3 – thanks to Haris Aziz (38) and an unbeaten 4th wicket stand between Alex Taylor (26 not out) and Dan Ahern (40 not out).
However, the Bulls grabbed the challenge by the horns and won with one ball and five wickets to spare.
Prestwich 3rd XI grabbed a point in dramatic fashion after falling short of the Westhoughton target of 215 for 4.
Eight players made double figures without capitalising. Thomas Orrell, aged 13, top scored with 27 and 12-year-old Thomas Prescott hit 21, but an unbroken last wicket stand between Karl West (23 not out) and Mo Arif (12 not out) was to thank for not finishing empty-handed. It had looked grim with 2 balls left and 7 required, bur Arif cracked a four and then a scampered 3 to finish on 162 for 9.
The 4th XI lost in their friendly match at Marple on Sunday, falling 20 runs short of the home side’s 173 for 9. Notable performances were a debut wicket for Thomas Hatchett, Gary Prescott falling a few short of his half century, Sam Regan’s 27, and a 7 (3 plus 4 overthrows) in Liam Potts’ unbeaten 16.
