The 1st team got back on the title track by defeating Moorside by 85 runs and the 2nd team gained a hard-fought victory against Golbourne 1sts to make it a double-winning Saturday.
A rain-delayed start meant the 1st XI game was restricted to 42 overs per side, but that did not stop Prestwich rattling up a total of 252 for 6, worthy of 50 overs at the crease.
Man-of-the-moment Ryan Stanbury unsurprisingly topped the scoring chart with 69 off 45 balls, although the visitors were rueing a couple of dropped chances. This took the big-hitting all-rounder past 800 runs for the season and was his 35th 50 (including 10 tons) for the club.
Alex Taylor (pictured), who has been having a fine season with both bat and ball, struck an unbeaten 50, Danny Pawson hit 45, and sub pro Sachithra Serasinghe made 28. Taylor shared in a 55-run partnership for the 6th wicket with Tom Gibson (21).
Moorside were bowled out for 167 as Nathan Bailey, also having a good season with the ball, was the main architect of their downfall, taking 4 for 45, and Serasinghe took 3-54.
On Sunday, the 1sts travelled to Bootle in the quarter final of the Lancashire Cup, but made a disappointing total of 113. Stanbury top-scored with 35 – an accumulation of 393 runs in his past four innings in the space of five days!
Bootle made 98 for 3 when the rain brought a premature end to the game but were well ahead on the Duckworth Lewis rate, and were comfortable victors.
Jack Doyle was pivotal to the 2nd team’s total of 158 for 8 at Golbourne off a reduced 34 overs.
He made a fine 46, supported by Lewis Jarvis (25) and Lewis Smith (23).
Jarvis, Tom Scott and Uwais Khaliq each took three wickets each to dismiss the home side for 122.
Heavy rain put paid to the Sunday games scheduled for the 3rd and 4th teams – and also prevented the club from fielding its first-ever 5th team!
