Report – Prestwich 1-4 Chaddertonians

by | Sunday November 21st 2021 | Football

Prestwich were unable to put together back-to-back wins as they were defeated by visitors Chaddertonians.

Prestwich were frustrated to lose key members Steadman, Smith and Gibson from the spine of the side that was victorious a week prior. Their issues mounted in the opening 15 minutes when Dale Beaumont had to leave the field with a suspected season ending injury.

Now without four regular defenders, Prestwich were forced to shuffle the back four with Martin Hill applying himself superbly at centre back. The task for the struggling hosts intensified when James Barlow unfortunately turned a cross into his own net to give the away side the lead.

Prestwich responded quickly though. Good play by the departing Pragnell and Wheaton saw Harvey Rhodes launch a drive at the goal. The winger was unfortunately denied by the cross bar but target man Holden was on hand to nod home the rebound.

Prestwich were unable to maintain momentum as they gave a relatively goal away soon after seeing Chads take a two one lead into the break.

Prestwich came out and shaded the opening 25 minutes of the second half without really looking like scoring. After 70 minutes, a decisive sequence of events put Prestwich out of the contest.

After a clash of heads, the ball was originally with goalkeeper Hudson. The referee changed his mind and returned the ball to Chaddertonians, who then caught Prestwich off guard expecting the ball to be returned. Typically for Prestwich, Chads scored from the following attack, a bitter pill after a valiant second half performance.

Prestwich would then crash a penalty off the cross bar before Chaddertonians added to the pain with a fourth goal in stoppage time.

The game was Callum Pragnell’s final for the club as he departs to London. His energy and quality will be sorely missed.

Prestwich host Old Bolts on the 27th at Hopwood Hall, 2pm kick off.
