Reports

Leigh Utd Warriors 2-0 PFC Under 10 Meerkats
The Meerkats travelled to Leigh to play last seasons champions and what a great game of football it was.

Both teams always put on a brilliant performance and today was no exception.

This was junior football at its best and in the first half both teams played superbly. It was 0-0 at half time and it was that close a match.

In the second half it was still end to end stuff and both teams had chances.

Leigh scored two goals in the second half to win the match but football was the winner here.

Very well played to both teams and again great support.

Clarence Juniors v PFC Under 7 Pumas
On the back of some superb recent form with three successive wins, the Puma’s went in to this match without regular ‘keeper Charlie.

AJ deputised between the sticks for the first half but could do nothing to stop the home side racing into a two-nil lead at Heywood Sports Village.

But with a couple of vital saves and some good defending from Shaun and Sam C, the Pumas didn’t fall too far behind in the opening stages.

And with Adam setting up plays from the back, Ash, Leo, Umair and Sam H all went close but found the Clarence ‘keeper in fine form, bravely coming off his line and thwarting Prestwich attacks.

Ash finally broke the home side’s defences and scored from just inside the box to get the Pumas right back in the game at the break.

Leo then put on the green goalie shirt for the start of the second half but was soon left rooted to the spot as a Clarence striker found the bottom corner.

Ash then hit back again with another strike as the Puma’s refused to give up the game.

Shaun took over from Leo in goal with the latter soon after showing his predatory insticts and slotting in to the corner to drag Prestwich back level.

The Puma’s had a couple of half chances to take the lead but then had Shaun to thank in goal for making three good late saves as Clarence looked to get back in front.

But in the end a fair result for both sides and a good battling display from the Puma’s in their first ever draw.

PFC Under 7 Tigers v Middleton L&G Leopards
Middleton L&G Leopards mauled the Tigers with a combination of slick passing, tough tackling and ruthless efficiency. The game kicked off with a sequence of 5 passes that gave all their outfield players a touch and the Tigers were clearly facing a quality of opposition they had not met to date.

There was some stoic defending from Tom and Bodhi in particular and Elliot made a couple of good saves during his spell in goal but once the first was conceded the Leopards smelt blood and added a few more goals quite quickly. The Tigers settled in the 2nd quarter but as the initial well disciplined shape and slick passing of the Leopards disappeared they proved they were a strong and competitive team too.

There were breaks forward from Luke and Kieron who are both looking increasingly confident running with the ball but most of the first half was spent defending and limiting the damage. Elliot took on more defensive duties than usual with some good tackles to help Alex keep the Leopards at bay.

In the second half again Luke and Kieron tried to push forward but the Leopards showed increasing hunger and a ruthlessness that took their lead into double figures. In the last 10 minutes the Tigers played their best football of the match managing to keep the ball for longer and this coincided with Tom’s reintroduction. Tom forced a save from the Leopard’s keeper but it was his defensive qualities that won him the Man of the match award. Elliot was awarded a late penalty but sadly the Leopard’s keeper proved he was as sharp as all his outfield team mates.
