Match Report – Weds Mens Bowls A & B Team

Wednesday April 22nd 2009 | Bowling

Week 3 Report A Team away @ St Margarets & B team Home to Broughton Green.

A Team v St margarets Away won 12 – 4 ( 6 winners to 4)

Skipper Cameron (Stu cameron) raced to an impressive 11 – 2 lead after 10 ends but ………….. dont know what happened next he either fell asleep, got bored or was simply out bowled by a very good homestar in Arthur Knott and stu lost 16 – 21

Chrissy I (Chris Ireland) am not playing in the second division Ireland, made a surprising return to the team and twice had to come from behind being 2 – 8 down & 8 – 14 before finally getting hold of the block and ran out 21 – 14.  Will he return next week? WATCH THIS SPACE…..

Gareth Martin like stu before him got off to a flyer and was 8 -2 up against Pete Lyons, But Pete showed his class and experience on the green where he rarely looses fourght back to win 21 -15

Ian Lucky luckett Has been a revealtion playing in the first half, had some good ends and won comfortably 21 – 6 in only 18 ends picking up 7 twos along the way.

Marthon Man next (stafford Morley) lived up to his new name and repeated last week perfomance with a lenghly see saw match – he went 7 -0 up, then 7 across, then 15 – 9 up, then 16 across and eventually lost 18 – 21 in 30 ends – at least he is getting his money’s worth!!

After 5 blocks 2 -3 down – nerves tingling

Next on was Mr 100% Colin Palmer – first of apologies I described his bowls has red last week I am told they are orange!!! – still look red to me – played his usual steady game quickly established a commanding lead of 12 – 5 then ran out 21 -6 in 20 ends

Next up one man crowd himself (jon Armstrong) struggled with the pace intially and exchanged points with his opponent in the early stages, then at 10 – 9 up found his length and slowly pulled away to       16 -10, before further exchanges of points and won 21 -15.  Though it has to be reported that He played the bowl of the night – his opponent had set the mark over the crown away from the pavillion and the first bowl ran a yard past, Jons first bowl stopped 6inch short of the block, his opponent repiled with an excellent shot, laying next to the block, Jon took his time and went the opposite peg played the perfect weight and pushed the side bowl out to leave himself 2 and 20 – 14 up

Marky mark (mark prossor) was clearly in rush to watch Man Utd (though dont know why they werent on tele!!!- He also brought his own personal fan club (his dad – arh bless)) so was out to impress won and was a repeat of the previous week score 21 – 6 in 20 ends picking up a very impressive 8 twos

Dave Palmer had a good start against another very good home bowler les andrew 7 – 2 but the green knowledge of Les was enough to come back and ldave lost 16 -21

Finally, but no means least Chad sproston – was his usual ” i hate this game dont know why i bother” when he found out his opponent was the jovial Dave Gibbons who apparantly he had never beaten before.  all I can say is the pep talk from jon before the game must have paid off for he won 21 -10 having “sprinted” (if you know chad you will appreciate the irony) to 14 – 3 lead before exchanging points with Dave for the rest of the game

second half 4 – 1 Prestwich won 191 -141 aggregate score and 12 -3 match points

B Team Home v Broughton Green won 10 – 4.5

With the return of First Team regulars and the new imports, i have high hopes for the team, who have made stronger and should return to second division where they belong with a very impressive 5 single figure victories

John “i’m the best from the sidelines ”  Haslam lost his unbeaten record and went down 8 – 21

Gary Turner still looking for his first win also lost 16 -21

Simon no knees Boyle played his first game and won comfortably 21 -9

Phil The Brad bradley just missed out on single figures winning 21 -10

Garth “no comment” Moore won 21 -9 (did the other player turn up?)

John “the green is the wrong colour green” steenson kept his 100% record makiking it 3 from 3 and won 21 – 8

The return of brass (pete Brassington) also showed he had not forgotten his touch and won 21 -8 to share the kitty

Martin Ackroyd Finally won a game 21 – 9 long may it continue

Ted “its good to be back” Birtwhistle lost 11 -21

skipper John davies had a walk over

161 -116 aggregate score and 10 – 4.5 match points
