WEEK 9 WEDS BOWLS B TEAM REPORT

Friday June 19th 2009 | Bowling

B Team home against Prestwich Cons C won 13 – 0 agg 210 – not very many

It appears that Our green is becoming like Fort Knox for in the last three home matches, on a Weds, we have only had one loser. The “B” have had a second successive 13 – 0 win with “A” having a 12 -1 last week. So keeping track of the runaway leaders.

B Team Home against Bottom placed Prestwich Cons C

Martin Ackroyd has regained his confidence and chalked up another win. Playing against J Harris the game was tight in the early stages with neither player taking control, and with the game evenly balanced at 13 -12 to Martin he found a nice Mark (and they both lived happily ever after!) put in a 8 break to take the game. Final Score 21 -12 won

John “the best scorer” Haslam, another who is improving each week, playing against R Cooper, had a see –saw start with the lead swapping 5 times between the players. With score reading 10 – 9 to John he put in a spurt with a mini break of 5 to pull, this led to further exchanges of points but John held on Final score 21 – 17 won

Marathon Morley just can’t help himself, he is either a secret Yorkie or wants to get value for his money or he doesn’t want to go home!! Another match lasting more than 31 ends. Despite quickly establishing a very healthy 13 -6 lead against A Gillespe, saw his opponent dig him and claw himself back into the game to level at 16 across. Staff showed his experience and dug very deep into his enormous pockets and managed to find a last push for the line to win.  Score 21 -18 won

Former Skipper Steve Brady fresh from his studies and now back in the fold showed He still has the ole magic with an impressive 7 “2s” and a 8 break to race to a very professional 19 -6 lead against R Huntley, who in turn produced a couple of doubles to make the score more respectable    Final Score 21 -12 won

Garthy Moore was not to be out done by Steve B and produced a Master class of his own with another 7 “2s” and coming from 1 -7 down produced a Majestic break of 17, which his opponent R Barton never recovered. Final score 21 – 8 won

Pete Brassy Brassington got off to a sluggish start and needed to fight back from 6 -12 and 12 -16 before he put in a final push with 9 break to win the game.  Final Score 21 -16 won

Teddy Birtwistle out to prove last weeks score of 3 was a minor setback. Quickly took control and asserted his authority by leading 11- 5 & 16 -8. But j moxos, his opponent, fought hard and crawled his way into contention at 19 -16. Ted hung on and took the game    Final score 21 – 18 won

Mr 100% Johnboy Steenson playing b McGovern showed why he is unbeaten; he flexed his muscles, squinted his eyes as though stalking prey, and raced to10 – 2 lead, McGovern pulled 3 back to put an 8 break together and the damage done. Another player to record 7 “2s”     Final score 21 -7 won

Gandalf up next (Phil Bradley) another person who is growing in confidence game by game despite his rubber knees! And must have been inspired by Marathon Man for his game was to last 33 ends. His opponent, A Booth, took control in the early stages to lead 11 -6, Phil pulled it back in singles to 12 – 13. Exchanges of blows followed and once again Phil found himself trailing 15 – 18 dug deep, almost striking oil, and put a break of 6 together to take the game.        Final score 21 – 18 won.

Last but no means least, was skipper John Davies who showed why he is both top of the averages and team captain, playing the hapless D Bernard. Words cannot describe his performance he was quite simply awesome, Imperialistic, the Prestwich Predator, The Tameside Tamer, in 3 words FAN Tas Tic anyway enough of that (beers are appreciated John) he strolled to a 19 – 0 Lead his opponent got in just John knew he was there, but John took the next and won. A 4th player to score 7 “2s” on the night

Final Score 21 -1

Great result boys well done next week away to Church Ins “B”
