WEEK 11 WEDS BOWLS A TEAM

Wednesday July 1st 2009 | Bowling

“A” Team away to the third placed  eagle & child B won 8 -2 ( 15 – 2 ) and so keep the pressure on at the top of the table and probably secure second spot.

“A” team away to third placed Eagle & Child “B” produced an empathic win of 8 winners to 2 and so collecting an impressive 15 points and so gaining ground on the league leaders.

Normal service was resumed tonight with both Colin & Jon having point to prove from their woeful performance the previous week, boy did they deliver, claiming 1st and 2 nd place kitty respectively

Enough off the plaudits on with the report:

Globe trotter Steve B up against the artful dodger Arthur Yardley, and had to fight back from  0 – 6 down to level at 6 – 6 all.  This proved to inspire Steve for he went on to control the game with some fine close bowling and won 21 – 16.

Marathon Man Morley freshly promoted from the “B” was out to show he can still produce the goods, and yes you guessed it his game lasted 33 ends!!  Playing against the highly regarded Gary Mcmahon neither player could assert himself and so there was never more than a couple points between them.  Stafford won 21 – 18

Chrissie Ireland had to fight from 1 -5 with 8 break to take the lead 9 -7 then moved on to 15 -10 before P Dixon put in a 7 break of his own to retake the lead 15 -17.  Again Chris doing what he does best and digging deep into his long pockets with his short arms to put 6 singles together and take the match Won 21 -17

Steveie Dixon was unlucky not only was he up against an inform player in Kevin McGrath, who bowled superb, but did not have any rubs in the match Steve lost 9 – 21

Skipper Stu had another difficult game against the under rated Alan Clark needing to come from 3 -8 down and 8 -14 down, before finally getting of the block and put in a 9 break to win 21 – 15 with an impressive 7 “2’s”

First Half 4 – 1 (6-1) agg 93 – 87 squeaky bum time

Ian not so luckett up next and playing the vastly improved Martin Turner, was never in the game and struggled to restrict Martin from scoring doubles.  Ian Lost 8 – 21 conceding a very poor 8”2’s”

Le Sulk (formally known as the one man crowd) up next – Jon Armstrong – and literally rolled up his sleeves to prove last week was a minor blip, a mere set back, out of character, one off, blah  blah playing against the unbeaten Gary Boardman., following early exchanges and the scores at 3 -4 Jon got on his favoured mark over the crown, put in a fine 10 break to lead 13 – 4.

Gary replied with a full corner length to pull 3 back put Jon raised the bar again with another 6 break to lead 19 – 7. Further exchanges followed and final score Jon Won 21 -9 – welcome back!

Mr red balls loser last time Colin Palmer also out to prove last week was a minor blip, a mere set back, out of character, one off, Played the Capt. and average leader Mike Halliwell and simply gave a master class and won very impressively in only 18 ends and consisted of a break of 11 and 6 “2s” 21 – 4.

Sprinter Gareth Martin playing D Parker lived up to his reputation by racing to 14 -7 with an 8 break only to see Dave do likewise and put an 8 break together of his own to level the scores at 15 -15.  Gareth dig in the same pockets has Chrissie I and pulled a match winning run of 4 to win 21 -17

Dave “I only came to watch, honest” Bellis made his long awaited return and played against the very tricky Dave Rosenfield.  Dave B quickly took to the green and asserted control to lead 8 – 0 which was to prove his saving grace.  Dave R showed his prowess and regained composure to retake the lead 9 -11.  Exchanges of points followed with neither retaining the block, though there were some very close fine bowling from both players and with the scores level at 17 – 17 and the green to themselves Dave B put in a couple of cheeky “2’s” to win 21 -17

Second Half 4 -1 (6-1)

Final result 15 – 2
