Thursday July 9th 2009 | Bowling

The “A” team were home against St Mags won 11 -3 (8 – 2 winners) 196 – 117 agg

“B” team report to follow but the they continued there impressive form to notch another victory 12 -4 away at Broughton Green

The “A” team home to St Mags, though we had 8 winners and took the agg comfortably. Does not reflect on the very high standard bowling, worthy of the first division, from both sides and with the top 4 divisional Averages on show you would expect nothing else!!

Marathon Man Morley just can’t help himself! I am now convinced he is doing it on purpose, though to be fair this game only lasted 26 ends which given there was 13 “2’s” in the match is quite remarkable. Neither player (K Olive) could not control the game nor the scores were close, though Stafford did have a mine break of 4 “2’s” in the middle to lead 14 -8. Final Score Stafford won 21 -18

Skipper Stu game with David Emerson was my match of the night, with some excellent close bowling from both. But stu always had the edge and came from 0 -3 down to lead 9 – 4, & 16 -11 before taking the game to win 21 -13.

Gareth Martin playing Pete Lyons, who is / was in 3rd place in the divisional averages, was always going to have a difficult game and was eager to impress, this may have been his undoing for he perhaps tried a little to hard and not played his natural game.
Gareth started well leading 6 -3 but Pete found a nice mark and proceeded to put a 9 break to take the lead 12 -3, though Gareth did restrict the break to singles. Exchanges followed and with the scores stood at 12 -16 Pete showed why he is challenging for the averages by running out with a 5 break with bowls that were never more than a foot away. Final score Gareth lost 12 -21

Chrissie Ireland playing B McCall didn’t need to do any digging in those exceeding deep pockets of his , for won comfortably 21 -3. To be fair to his opponent he did restrict to Chris to only 4″2’s”.

Globe trotter Blaymire playing against Paul Dickinson had to come from 1 -5 down with a break of 14 which included 5″2’s” to lead 15 – 5 to dominate, the players then swapped points but Steve proceeded to win 21 – 9

First Half 4 -1.5 96 – 63 agg

Dave” I only came to watch, honest” Bellis was first on and having impressed last week, and the fact he can read was out show he still has the touch. Playing against the highly experienced Les Clarkson raced to 6 – 1 lead. And continued to dominate to extend his lead 16 – 6, Les had mini revival and clawed his way back to 16 -12 but Dave stepped up a notch and take the game to win 21 -12.

Divisional Average leader Mr Red balls himself Colin playing against Ian Heywood was also in control of his game and never really allowed Ian to settle into his stride. Colin led 9 -3, 16 -8 and won 21 -9 picking up 7″2’s” along the way.

The crowd (Jon Armstrong) up next and was quieter than normal! And not quite feeling 100% played against the hapless Barry Fleet. The first end was to set the tone for the game, Barry led an excellent side bowl no more than an inch and half covered the block, Jon played with control weight picked a perfect line and ran the block a yard Barry could not reply and ended up short, Jon played wide to get round the back to score two. Jon then put on an exhibition of high standard close bowling to lead

12 – 0. Barry still fought on to score a couple but Jon regained the block and went back on the earlier mark and pulled away to 18 -2. Barry responded by beating Jon’s 1 inch bowl and made the score more respectable with a mini break of 6. The final end Barry will cursing till the “cows come home” Jon was holding two with the lead bowl to the side of the block and barley a bowl width away, Barry with nothing to lose played with controlled weight, perfect line and composure only to see his bowl pass through the gap that wasn’t there! Final score Jon won 21 -8 and so retains 2nd place in the divisional averages

Ian not so luckett playing A Tanset was never in any danger and won 21 – 6 which included a 17 break & 7″2’s”

Last Man Up was Marky Mark prosser and playing against the highly rated Les Andrew saw the early stages being tight and with the score at 8 -4 in marks favour Les showed his experience and put a break of 11 consisting of 4 “2’s” to take the lead 8 – 15. This would prove to be the difference, for after this the players exchanged points and mark lost 16 – 21

Second half 4 -1.5 agg 100 – 54

Overall 11 -3 agg196 – 117

No Game next week due to league handicap so I will post tables and averages instead
