DARTS ROUND UP 16/10/2009

Thursday October 15th 2009 | Social

With the league now started and the format of 7 dart players the best of 3 501 and 5 pairs of dominoes playing “5 & 3s” up to 91 playing for 2 points for each section an intriguing season awaits.

Week one saw a frustrating time with the other team The Woolpack from Bury failing to to turn up! Obviously heard of our prowess and we scared them. Still we get the points 2 for darts and 2 for Doms – good start.

Week two away to St Mary’s Social Club in Radcliffe saw some interesting tussles with nerves jangling and a hot atmosphere to boot progressed as follows:

Darts
First up Steady Stu Cameron, used to playing first for his previous team, insisting on throwing first and did not let us down taking the game 2 – 0 with 2 tons.

Double Trouble Skipper Jon Army stepped up next and was unlucky to miss out on 114 finish in the first leg and 92 in the second, Jon out scored his opponent but could not hit a double and duly lost 0 -2 also had a ton.

Nervy Nick carter, playing his first darts match, threw well despite his nerves and went into a 3rd and deciding leg and nicked the game to win 2 -1 he also scored a ton.

Chomping John Davies was beside himself with excitement and couldn’t wait any longer so went next and delivered an exhibition that Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor would be proud of thowing 4 tons and one 140 to win 2 -0 and won the man of the match.

Gareth Martin up next and was making his debut on the darts circuit and nerves showed again, though he won the first leg his opponent stepped up a gear and took the next two. Gareth lost 1 -2, he also scored a ton.

What can I say about Jon O’ Connor other than the most boring game I have witnessed for a long long while! He scored a ton then followed up with a 1 and 3 in 6 darts, then proceeds to have at least 70 darts at double 1 in both legs, which incidentally he won (which is better than I – perhaps I should take lessons?) won 2 -0 and so making the match and 2 points safe.

Martin Ackroyd played their seasoned campaigner and was always chasing, Martin lost 0 – 2 but his opponent checked out with 106

• Final score won 4 -3

Dominoes
What an inspiration I have never seen any team win all 5 games and by the narrowest of margins ie all games were won within 10 points :

Big Ted Birtwistle & John Haslam had the honour of opening and won 91 – 84

The lovely ladies Gail Friend & Wendy Cameron showed their class and won 91 – 82

Andy Bradley & Janet Austin keen to impress and keep the roll going won 91 – 86 and so taking the match and 2 points

Stu Cameron & Steve Walmserly not wanting to be out done won 91 – 81

Big Ted & Gail Friend played their second match and and had the best win of the eve and won 91 – 80

• Final score won 5 – 0

No game this Monday 19th October, so feel free to come down and join us for a practice. Next Match is the Domino Cup Game at home on 26th October  against a very good division one side in Stopes Tavern from Little Lever so please come and show your support.
