Monday April 12th 2010 | Bowling

New season upon us already and with it brings new faces, new hopes new dreams and aspirations Also a NEW CLUBHOUSE – yippee! it looks great

A BIG warm welcome to our new players – Geoff Hilton And lliewauyyynnnn (lou for short) Robetrs – yes he is from Wales and along with gareth, and with yours truly from Yorkshire making it a cosmopolitan club, well if you class Bangor, wrexham and Leeds as cosmopolitan. Or perhaps we are just a team of mis – fits?

Once again I must warn the readers and the players that whilst I try to be informative about the games and the players, all comments are meant to be taken with a sense of fun and nothing personal is intended if you are easily offended please overt your gaze Also I am looking for nick names for the players so any ideas let me know
This year to keep the excitement the second half will have a agg score update so the final score will not be known until the end

Anyway on with the report
Gareth Martin, was involved in a see-saw match and struggled in the early stages soon found himself trailing 3 – 10 to the under-rated Dave Conroy, He found his length and pulled it back to 10 – 13, David recovered with some excellent close bowling and took the score to 11 – 20, Gareth still resisted and scored 3 more but the damage done by Dave. Gareth Lost won 14 – 21

Dave oh dear oh dear Bellis, for a man of his vast experience allowed himself to be talked out of his game and was simply “old manned” By the difficult J J Conroy, sure the scorers didn’t help getting it wrong, but to lead 19 -12 and not score again is travesty, though to be fair his opponent did not allow him by bowing 6 inch bowls with regular consistency which Dave could not beat. Lost 19 -21

Steve Blaymire another to struggle, Lost 13 – 21 to Alan Marcoft conceding 7 doubles along the way

Dave wheres your shorts Palmer never looked in danger and raced to 11 – 3 lead in 12 ends including a 7 break against Jon Palin, Jon Recovered to make the score 12 – 9 But stepped a notch and ran out with an impressive 9 break to win 21 – 9

Chrisse Deep Pockets Ireland must have worn the wrong trousers for the score stood at 6 – 7 down against Dave Dance who proceed to “dance” all over the green with some fine bowling and showing no mercy to which Chris could not fin an answer Chris lost 7 – 21 – which I am sure will be a “one off”

First Half – Oh dear – 1.5 to 4 and the agg 74 – 93 19 points down not a good start

Bring on the Big boys game on

Colin New but even shinier red balls Palmer keen to prove the averages were not a fluke last season started in his usual fashion – raced to a 6 -0 lead. But D wilinson found his mark and put in a 9 break including 4 doubles (TUT TUT mr palmer) to make the score 8 – 14 Colin never recovered from this onslaught, though the players exchanged points colin scored singles when his opponent scored doubles final Score Colin Lost 13 -21
Running Match score 1.5 – 5 agg 87 – 114 ( – 27 points)

Next on llewianyyn (something like that – lets call him Lou) new boy roberts – first of all my apologies saying “oh good more young boys to play with” is probably not the best opening line I could have come out with!!! Nothing between the players in the early exchanges and the scores stood at 8 – 8. Lou suddenly found form and eager to show he was worth his transfer fee of two pints of lager and a packet of crisps oh and a fresh Lamb (tee hee sorry couldn’t resist) sprinted to a 18 – 9 against Ricky Jones. Not to be out done Ricky found form himself pulled the score back to 18 -20 down but lou held on and plopped over the finish line to win 21 – 18 – Hope your reading Mr Bellis

Running Match score 3 – 5 agg 109 – 132 ( – 23 points)

Next was the game of the night, if not the season, Arise Sir Geoff Of Hilton against The tonges Best Player Duke Darren of Wardle with neither player giving quarter nor non taken. nothing could split the pair and only 5 doubles between them ensured a tight titanic tussle , Though Sir geoff edged it in the early exchanges of 2 & 3 inch bowls, Darren was never far away and if either player had played anyone else on the night we would probably looking at 2 whitewash ie 21 – 0 the bowling was simply awesome of orgasmic proportions, indeed I can not find the words or the superlatives to do it justice and if this a sign of things to come then the league is going to be tight this year. With the scores stood at 6 – 7 Sir Geoff sneaked in a 5 single break to lead 11 -7 and this was to be difference. After this the players exchanged blows all the way like to heavy weights in 12 round fight and the final score sir Geoff 21 -17 won

Running Match score 4.5 – 5 agg 130 – 149 ( – 19 points)

Skipper Showboat Stu Cameron reminded everyone why he is the skipper and was never in any danger against the hapless Syd Hayes Stu won 21 – 8

Running Match score 4.5 – 5 agg 151 – 157 (- 6 points)

Last but no means least was the return of the yorkie, the crowd , MOI (french for ME in other words) Jon armstrong – against the steady Roy Worral soon found himself trailing 3 – 7 & 7 – 15, and getting frustrated with the lack of support and encouragement from the sidelines . With Stu vacating the green and leaving it to the yorkie and Roy only, all eyes were on them, well they would have been if Man utd weren’t throwing a 3 – 0 lead away ( tee hee come chelsea) The yorkie started to grow in the spot light (or rather floodlight) and played some fine bowls picking up 11 points to Roy 3 and leveling the score at 18 -17 to Jon , then a little bad luck went against the yorkie when counting one and coming for two, knocked in roy to leave the score 18 -18. Roy then scored 2 more singles and was lying game with a side wood 2 inch away. Yorkie took his time and the perfect bowl to rest on roy making the score 19 -20 . this inspired Jon to finish it the next end to win 21 -20

Final score 7.5 – 8 agg 172 – 177( – 5 points)

Next Week see’s the start of the cup where we are out to defend our title – verus Rhodes at hollinghurst
