Prestwich 3, Bury GSOB Reserves 0
Lancs Amateur League Division Two at Heys Road, Prestwich
Saturday 24th April 2010

Prestwich secured the Lancashire Amateur League Division Two Championship following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bury GSOB Reserves at Heys Road. Goals from Matty Lott, Sean Haslam and John Blezard gave Lee Metcalfe’s men the win they needed as the curtain came down on a superb season.

Following Hesketh’s 6-2 midweek win at Mostonians Reserves, Prestwich went in to the game knowing a win would seal the title for the Heys Road side in their first season together.

Shaun Jackson’s cross in just the ninth minute was headed inches wide by strike partner Sean Haslam as Prestwich looked to settle some early nerves.

Anthony Roberts crashed an effort against the Bury crossbar on 28 minutes as the home side struggled to get any real momentum with lots of missed placed passes littering their play.

Defender Paul Taylor sent another header on to the bar as the half drew to a close without any breakthrough.

With 45 minutes left of their season, a stirring half-time team talk produced an almost immediate reaction as skipper Matty Lott thrashed home an effort from the edge of the box for the all important opener.

And just moments later, Prestwich doubled their lead as Haslam juggled the ball in to position before unleashing a volley that left the Bury ‘keeper with no chance.

With no real threat coming from the visitors, Prestwich spent much of the remainder of the match knocking on Bury’s door but the substitute ‘keeper was doing well to frustrate the home side.

That was until substitute John Blezard latched on to Haslam’s centre with ten minutes remaining to rubber stamp the victory and bring the second piece of silverware back to The Heys in an extraordinary debut season for the club.

PRESTWICH: Hudson, Kosub, Kirkley, Lott (1), Steadman, Taylor (Coyle), Howarth, Roberts, Haslam (1), Jackson (Ingham), McGovern (Blezard (1))

• PRESTWICH SUNDAY team beat first placed Towler by two goals to nil to stay second in the Premier Division, level on points with league leaders but separated on goal difference. A second half strike from sub Mark Broderick set the home side on the way before Chris Crookes made the game safe from the penalty spot just eight minutes later.
