Prestwich 2XI 164-7 (5) v Glossop 80ao (0)
LCL Division Two at Heys Road, Prestwich
14th August 2010

On Saturday Prestwich 2nds took a massive step towards winning the league with a 84 run win over 2nd place Glossop at Heys Road.

The match was reduced to 40 overs due to heavy rain and a damp pitch. Glossop won the important toss and they had no hesitation in bowling.

Glossop then removed the dangerous Fordy with the score on 6. Dez and Dave steadied the ship and took the score to 52 before Allen removed the form batsman Dave Taylor.

Gibbo and Dez took the score on to 72 before Tom was undone by a ball that stopped on him, pushing the ball to mid wicket for an easy catch. Mike Taylor came in and immediately looked to up the score rate.

Batting remained difficult, but Dez stuck with it. Driving a single through mid wicket brought up his well deserved 50 as the score moved to 108 for 3 off 32 of the 40 overs. Dez and Mike batting aggressively before Dez was removed for 62.

Jamie came in and made a quick 7 before meeting his demise. Matt Walsh followed shortly after for 5, leaving Prestwich 159 for 6. Damo was next in, but there was only a few balls left and he got stumped for a duck off the last ball. This left Mike unbeaten on 48 and the score a very respectable 164 for 7.

Glossop started brightly, as anything but a win was simply not good enough. But their enthusiasm came undone as Walshy removed the dangerous Blackwood for 5 with the score on 9.

With the score on 24, Parker hit the ball to mid wicket and goes for a quick single. But fantastic fielding ran him out with a direct hit.

The next over sees Wilde flick John Walters into the waiting hands of Tom Gibson and Glossop are 24 for 3. Prestwich have their tails up and Glossop are in deep trouble as Matt Walsh finds the edge of Coates’s bat and Fordy doesn’t miss them.

24 for 4 and the crowd are loving it. Sonczak is defensive whilst Malkin plays his shots as Glossop try to stage a recovery. But with the score on 47, Walshy gets one to rise and find the edge of Malkins bat and Mike Taylor takes it easily at 2nd slip.

4 runs later and Walters traps Sonczak leg before and Glossop are 6 down for just 51. Walters and Walsh have a rest after bowling 23 overs, with figures of 2 for 24 and 3 for 32 respectively. They are replaced by Gibbo and Dulux, and Dulux starts with a wicket maiden and Glossop are 61 for 7.

Tom makes sure he is in the wickets by clean bowling Usher and it is 61 for 8. Pete Lorenzini is bowling superb and he takes another wicket before changing ends, as Damo is brought into the attack.

Damo just gets the one over as Pete takes the last wicket leaving him with figures of 3.1 overs, 3 maidens, no runs and 3 wickets. Glossop are all out for just 80 off 32.1 overs.

Prestwich picked up 5 points and followed that up with another maximum haul on Sunday as they beat Woodhouses by 55 runs to now lead the league by 17 points with just 5 games remaining.
