FUTURE OF CRICKET IN LEES LANCASHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE

Friday June 14th 2013 | Club, Cricket

The constitution of the League for 2014 will remain the same as 2013, a fourteen club League. The League Executive committee have asked all clubs to consider how we want to structure our League from 2015 onwards. The PCC committee feel our players need to have their say on this matter and we have called a meeting at the club following 1st X1 nets next Thursday (20th June ) at 830pm. Clearly some players feel that there are too many double weekends and some would prefer some of the Cricket to include T20/20 within a League programme etc etc!

There is also the risk of further consolidation of Leagues due to a lot of clubs coming under increasing financial pressure with bleak futures. There are rumours about the possibility of a Manchester Premier League being formed and or some Leagues merging. Our League feel we should do something before the rug could be pulled by some LLCL clubs being poached or even collapsing due to financial pressure!

Any way we intend to meet next Thursday to hear the views of our players before replying formally to League by the end of the month. I intend asking Bob Hinchliffe to front the session with a short speech capturing some of the ideas & risks etc and then I want to hear your views. Bob has been at the core of some activity in this area by the LCB where he is of course the Vice Chairman. All players playing in Senior cricket are invited to this very important meeting.

The overall views expressed in this note are in the main mine and your committee and are intended to invite debate!
