BRIAN NEAL – UPDATED DETAILS

Tuesday July 9th 2013 | Club, Cricket

With great sadness we have to announce that Brian died on Sunday 7th July. The family have asked me to pass on to as many friends I can think of and hence the reason for this short announcement.

Brian and his wife Mavis were part of the fabric of our club when I joined in 1966. Brian more than anybody else helped me settle into Prestwich life. He started his cricket playing days at Cheetham Cricket Club on Waterloo Road. A club that went out of existence following one of the most infamous stories ever in League Cricket and subsequently recorded in the Museum at Lords Cricket Ground in London.

When I watch any sport played by left-handers I normally view with some pleasure the classy way they present their skills and watching Brian strike a cricket ball came into that category for me. He struck sixes in such a sublime and easy style that it really was a pleasure to watch. He was my first captain, a quality all-rounder and a great pal. Of course we shared the passion of supporting City and stood together on the Kippax Street and later sat together with Mavis in the North Stand. Great days and fantastic memories I will cherish forever. He was an active working member of the club taking part in many of the renowned Arthur Codd working parties. He left Manchester in the 70’s to pursue his career in South Wales and settled in Penarth near Cardiff.

Everybody at PCTBC sends their condolences to Mavis , David and Kathryn.
