UMPIRES REQUIRED

Thursday November 19th 2015 | Cricket

Since the GMCL launched the request for Umpires to join the league, they have had a wonderful start and in excess of 80 Umpires have committed themselves to officiate in the new league. This is truly a great start, but they need more!! To achieve a 100% level of officials at all SATURDAY matches they need 96 available Umpires, so as you can see they are just short of that figure. Taking into account holiday’s, injuries, illness and general unavailability, the GMCL reckon they are around 30 Umpires light on where they need to be.

So what are they asking of your club?

Quite simply, is there anyone within our club set up who would like to take up a fabulous opportunity of having the “best seat in the house” at Saturday matches and commit to regularly Umpiring in the GMCL? Full support and training will be provided, whether it be a simple 2 hour “Introduction to Umpiring” course or a 16 hour course spread over 8 evenings to become an ECB ACO Level 1 qualified Umpire, the options are there for each individual to make his/her choice.

What are the rewards for this job?

In addition to receiving match day expenses starting at £38.00 for Divisions 3, 4 & 5, increasing to £43.00 for officiating in the Premier League, there is always a fabulous tea waiting for you, but more importantly it is an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon making new friends be they fellow Umpires, Club Officials, Players, Spectators and many more. The GMCL will also provide all Umpires who commit to Umpiring regularly with their own “kit” which consists of a Coat, Shirt and Trousers all bearing GMCL logo’s, so you will be part of the Umpiring team. It really is a very rewarding job and of course cricket cannot be played properly without Umpires.
