Prestwich put in probably their most impressive performance of the season playing some scintillating quick passing football on a greasy pitch to despatch their visitors and carve out a somewhat surreal looking goal difference of plus 51 from 16 games played.
Whilst Prestwich started well taking an early lead on 4 minutes with a well taken Sean Haslam goal a Castle Hill equaliser on 7 mins suggested it was going to be a much tougher game than the ultimate score line suggests.
Indeed whilst Prestwich were clearly the dominant side Castle Hill clearly had a potential goal threat on the break in the form of two very decent strikers.
The wet surface though clearly suited Prestwich’s high tempo passing game and with Sam Holden and Darren Buckley controlling the game from the middle of the park Prestwich’s pacey strike force of Sean Haslam, David Prieto, Martin Hill and Steve Murty (pictured) were constantly getting in behind the Castle Hill back line and further goals looked imminent.
Castle Hill’s resolve was finally broken on 14 mins when Haslam, fed Hill who slipped the ball across from right to left for Murty to end his recent barren run with a composed finish.
Castle Hill’s capitulation continued on 24 minutes when Hill who seemed to have a hand in just about every goal yet incredibly wasn’t on the score sheet himself took a throw from the right which was cleverly flicked on by Holden for Haslam to grab his second.
Hill was again the provider with a peach of a cross from the right that was met at the back post by left back Liam Burke, his initial header was saved but he reacted first to the rebound to smash it home and make it 4-1 at the break.
As if not to be outdone in the fullback stakes Pete Gallaher added a fifth on 55 with a great individual effort cutting in from the right to strike home from 18 yards.
With Prestwich rampant and Castle Hill all at sea now there was still time for Murty and Haslam to complete their hat tricks and David Prieto to claim a much deserved goal of his own.
All in all it had been a very high quality performance by the whole team collectively and just what was needed before next week’s clash with the high flying Roach Dynamos the only team that could still equal Prestwich’s current points total with their games in hand.
