STANBURY’S T20 BLAST MASTERCLASS

Monday May 13th 2019 | Cricket

A magnificent unbeaten 140 from Ryan Stanbury in just 64 balls blasted Prestwich Heat to victory over Roe Green Renegades in their Friday night T20 clash.

Stanbury smashed 11 sixes and 12 fours, with a quickfire 46 from pro Ali Azmat boosting the total to 229 for 2 off 18 overs. Cooper made 83 not out in reply, but 143-5 off 14 overs meant Roe Green lost out by 31 runs under the DL method after a short rain stoppage. Danny Pawson took for 3 for 28 and there was no rest for Stanbury who chipped in with 2 wickets.

On Saturday, Denton St Lawrence maintained their undefeated start to the season with a 63-run victory over Prestwich 1sts, racking up 281-4, with Adam Hawley, Scott Kirwin and Matt Sonczak all making half centuries for the home team.

The Prestwich innings faltered to 28 for 3, but a fifth wicket stand of 117 runs between Lee Dale (64) and Sam Holden (69) threatened to wrestle back the game. However, their departures left the target insurmountable and Ben Tighe finished with 5 for 80 as Prestwich ended on 219 all out.

Prestwich 2nds faced a tough assignment against Elton 1st XI who set a total of 209 for 8, with 15-year-old Uwais Khaliq taking 2 for 23 . Luke Prescott, aged 13, top scored with 34 but Prestwich fell 96 runs adrift on 113 all out.

The 3rd XI chalked up another marvellous win under stand-in skipper Karl West despite only setting a brittle target of 109. Stretford 3rd XI were dismissed for 59. Anees Arif took 3 for 3 from 8 overs, Luke Prescott 3 for 10, and Josh Ahern 2 for 13.
