THE DAY MY SKIPPER WASN’T TOO HAPPY

by | Friday April 3rd 2020 | Cricket

Name: Nathan Bailey

Nickname: Bails, Nath, Nato, Shinji

Current or past player: Current

What sparked your interest in cricket: Huge family interest: Pete Hey (uncle) second team legend, Carl (cousin) former pro.

Do you prefer the T20, 50-over, county or Test format of the game: 50 overs, last year’s World Cup proved why it was the best.

Cricketing hero: Ben Stokes – genius

Favourite current (professional) player: Ben Stokes/Jason Roy

Most admired/best player you have played with: Bradders and Pete Lorenzini – both have priceless experience, laughs and have been like a father figure on and off the pitch.

Most formidable opponent: Ormskirk

Favourite away ground: Blackpool – had fish and chips for tea, everyone knows I love a beige tea

Favourite/most memorable match you’ve played in: Fiixton away 2018. bowled well and took two good catches (a rarity)

Personal highlight/champagne moment: 2018 summer – Bowled Jason Roy whilst net bowling at England. Was also lucky enough to bowl at Australia, South Africa and India within a year.

Funniest moment/s in cricket: Greenmount away 2018 – James Wharmby and Lee Dale put on about 500 for the first wicket and was boring everyone to death. So me, Mike Hudson and Tom Gibson had to kill time by winding everyone up. So much so skipper Sam Holden took drinks out and called us childish. Must have gone to his head because I remember him getting skittled whilst scooping for not very many….

Best way to relax after the game: Beers and laughs with the boys, not shy to an Anatolian grill.

Do/did you have any cricketing superstitions: If I have a good game I always try and keep the same routine the next week

What will you miss most in cricket during this enforced break: General laughs around the lads, winding everyone up and the holy trinity laps between me Tom Scott and Bradders.

Is there anything you’d change about the game: If someone hits me for six then they’re out.

If you could invite 3 cricketing celebrities (players, presenters, commentators) round for dinner, who would they be and why:

Chris Gayle (god knows where that night would end up)
Bumble (no more needed to be said)
Jofra Archer (king)
