WE’RE BACK

A 2nd team friendly with Greenfield provided a most welcoming and eagerly-awaited sight today.
The sound of leather on willow, the spectacle of players in whites – even though they had to turn up in them – was the pick-me-up needed for all cricket enthusiasts.
The game has been tweaked to ensure it complies with ECB guidance and reduces the risk of transmission of Covid-19, but the essence remains the same…..great catches, silly shots, glorious pulls for six into the trees.
Big thanks to Greenfield for making the trip from their Saddleworth base – it was a worthy game and much appreciated. And a socially-distanced pat on the back to Jon Mayor for his umpiring duties.
Prestwich won by 5 wickets. But that does not matter.
Normally, the result comes first. But the fact it is comes last sums it all up.
It’s just good to be back playing.

* An inter-club 40-over match will take place tomorrow, from 1pm onwards. Clubhouse and bar open as usual.
