IT NEVER RAINS BUT IT PAWS

Prestwich 1st and 2nd teams recorded hard-fought victories in their league matches last Saturday.

Unfortunately, rain washed out the 3rd team’s clash with Bolton Deane & Derby on Sunday.

Boosted by the returning Ryan Stanbury, and smarting from a comprehensive defeat to Roe Green earlier this month, the 1st team turned the tables with a fine team effort – headlined by the irrepressible Danny Pawson.

Top scoring with 66 in 36 balls, his mix of strokes can probably be best described as part brute (4 sixes) , and part beaut (6 fours). Pawson’s run of form with the bat has been nothing short of sensational, and his innings marked his 8th score of 50 or more for the club.

There was excellent support up and down the line-up as Stanbury made short shrift of his absence with 36, Cameron Mapstone 25, Jack Doyle 23 and Tom Gibson 25 not out, all contributing to a challenging score of 194 for 5 from a rain-affected 36 overs.

In reply, Roe Green fell 24 runs short under the DLS calculation, with Daniel Cooper (46) and then Luke Norris (49) keeping the Green flag flying, before finishing on 155 for 8.

Stanbury took 3 for 18 and Pawson 3 for 42, while Andy Bradley claimed the remaining two wickets.

The 2nd team met their 2nd XI counterparts at Clifton, and it turned out to be another good battle.

Clifton totalled 145 for 6 from their 38-over allocation before Nick Carter, another player returning to the fold and showing no sign of rust, batted through the whole Prestwich innings to make an unbeaten 58. Coupled with 22 from Adam Cheshire in the middle order, the target was surpassed with five wickets and a few balls to spare.
