Danny and Sam hit tons in vain

Thursday May 5th 2022 | Cricket

The first team suffered defeat to Egerton in a remarkable run feast last Saturday.

An unbeaten 142 from Danny Pawson (pictured), made up of 15 boundaries and 3 sixes from 153 balls, together with an equally destructive 106 from Sam Holden, who hit 7 fours and 6 sixes off 82 balls, had put Prestwich in pole position on a total of 338-4.

But a stunning 179 from pro Will Bosisto and 69 not out from Danny Partington saw the home side overhaul the target with 2 balls to spare. Some game!

• Aaryaman Roy paved the way for victory for the 2nd team against Worsley 1sts. His 15-over spell returned figures of 6 for 33, as the visitors were bowled out for 107, 36 runs short of the Prestwich’s total of 146. Adam Cheshire took 2 for 25 after earlier top scoring with 34, aided by 26 from captain Steven Lorenzini and 22 from Mike Hudson.

• Opener Adam Taylor cracked 102 in 100 balls to give the 3rd team an excellent start in their win over Royton 3rds. He was supported by 32 from Ali Sherazi and 22 from Thomas Orrell to push the total to 205 all out. Orrell then grabbed 4 for 40 with his spin, Chris Nuttall taking 3-22, and Karl West 2-14, to restrict Royton to 171 all out.

• The 4th team secured a four-wicket victory after bowling out Darcy Lever 3rds for 115. Simon Jackson took 3 for 16, including wickets in successive deliveries, although his hat-trick attempt was “wide” of the mark. Ben Pinkus also grabbed three wickets (3-32).

A stand of 79 between 13-year-old Charlie Jackson (33) and captain Pete Staley (30) looked to have broken the back of the run chase, but 4 wickets were lost for just one run, before Martin Regan (18 not out) steered the ship home.

• A 5th team friendly on Monday resulted in a win for Trafford 3rd team who chased down Prestwich’s 174 for 4. Finlay Lester retired on 50 not out, Thomas Orrell made 45, Gary Hershcovitch 24 and Owen Adam 22 not out. The visitors passed the target with four wickets in hand, Dave Eckersley and Ellis Compton each taking two wickets.
