Cup success for Two’s while First Team edge a step closer

A fantastic Sunday afternoon at Daisy Hill’s ground as Prestwich 2XI beat Heaton by 85 runs to clinch the Tetley’s GMCL 2XI Premier Cup.

At 57-5 though the Prestwich innings looked to be faltering, however a superb 86 run partnership between man-of-the-match Jack Doyle and skipper Steven Lorenzini helped the Heys Road team recover to post a competitive total of 169-9 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Heaton never really got going as Wilf Reeve and Charlie Jackson took regular early wickets to peg their opponents back to 30-6 from just 17 overs. And when Doyle and Adam Cheshire were brought in to the attack, a brace of wickets each mopped up the tail and sealed the victory for Prestwich.

Jack Doyle put in a man-of-the-match performance as he top scored for Prestwich 2XI with 81.

The previous day and back in the league, the Second’s slipped to a 104 run defeat away at Bolton Deane & Derby.

Prestwich 1XI recorded a comprehensive 10 wicket win over bottom club Astley & Tyldesley at Heys Road. Nathan Bailey and Ryan Maddock again doing all the damage to restrict the visitors to just 83 all out.

Captain James Wharmby’s unbeaten 49 helped his team over the line ably assisted by Lewis Smith’s 28 not out.

The win keeps the team 16 points clear at the top of the GMCL Premier Division with just 4 games now left to play.

On Sunday and back at Heys Road Prestwich 3XI recorded a 55 run win over Whalley Range and remain in top spot of the GMCL Sunday Premier Division.

Prestwich 4XI lost out to Whalley Range by 41 runs at Kingsbrook Road.

And wrapping up this week’s action Prestwich 5XI suffered a 7 wicket defeat in their friendly on Saturday up at Haslingden.
