Barry Darlington

With great sadness we have to advise our members that Barry passed away last week at his home in Llandudno.

Barry was fit and well until recently and played social tennis at Craig Y Don Tennis Club in Colwyn Bay. He leaves Helen is wife, a son Steven (still a top player at Holcombe Brook Tennis Club) and two daughters.

Brought up in Prestwich and joined PTC as a junior in the 1950s. Playing at Prestwich in the 1960s and 1970s, Barry was one of a number of Lancs county players at the club who dominated their local leagues. As well as Barry this illustrious group included Peter Goodman, Peter Taylor and Ian Smith.

As well as being a gifted tennis player he also played (silky left foot) football for the club. He was a lovely man with a great sense of humour and a serious competitive sportsman.

Sincere condolences to Helen and their family.

RIP Barry
