Geoff Tootell

The Club is saddened to hear that Geoff (pictured centre) passed away last weekend. Geoff was an all-rounder who played with distinction across both our 1st and 2nd XIs.

To say he was a character is hardly doing it justice, at times the life and soul of the dressing room and the bar area, with a wicked sense of humour.

In addition, a massive Man City fan who I travelled across the UK and Europe with. His sense of humour never left him. He started his cricketing career with Stand and moved to Prestwich in the very early 70s.

One of many memories with me was when City took a 2-nil lead against the Polish champions at Maine Road. We were in our regular spot in the Kippax and he lit up his usual Victoria Blue fag and announced to everybody around ‘There isn’t a team in Europe who can come back from 2 down to City’. Before he had finished his fag the score was 2-2!!

He was a member of the infamous ‘The Big Fella’s’ ten pin bowling team and later played Crown Green Bowling with Top Green. He was forever a gambler, horses and the dogs and overall claimed success.

RIP pal.

Funeral details will be posted when known.

** Geoff’s funeral will be at Radcliffe Crematorium Friday 3rd May at 2:30pm. **
