A Rallying Crowd

Tuesday May 7th 2024 | Tennis

Our Men’s A Tennis Team last week played host to David Lloyd A in the teams first home match of the season.

David Lloyd A were last seasons runners up and have an array of talented players in their midst, who if all available can provide a mighty challenge. Reports of a few injuries however meant they had some individuals missing for this match up.

The players were greeted by a good number of supporters from both teams but an especially lively and enthusiastic home support.

The match got under way with a buzz of anticipation and the opening round of matches provided some tense and exciting tennis.

David Lloyd’s 1st pair were in good form and the opening 6 games against Prestwich’s George Sykes and Paul Jepson was a real tussle. In the 7th game Jepson held serve in an extremely long game and this provided momentum to the Prestwich pair who then closed out the match 8-3.

Karl Kantor and David Wride were creating the ooohs and ahhhhs on the centre court and managed to secure a 2nd win of the opening 3 matches.

Not to be left out Christian Millington and Jon Stammers secured the 3rd win of the openers and gave Prestwich a 3-0 lead and a bit of breathing space in the tie.

Millington and Stammers went on to claim 2/3 wins with the pair using the speed of the home court surface to utilise their big serves and dynamic all court play.

Kantor and Wride in true style battled hard in their remaining matches and were particularly unlucky in the final round just losing out in a tie break.

Sykes and Jepson took the momentum from their opening round and secured another 3/3 wins on the night in what can only be described as a clinical performance.

The end result being a 6-3 victory for Prestwich and a big thanks to all those who came down to support. You could say they were the 7th man.

Prestwich currently sit joint leaders with Alkrington Tennis Club who we entertain at The Heys in a few weeks time.
