Chairman’s Annual Report 2024/25

Sunday January 18th 2026 | Club

I am delighted to report another successful year for the club in terms of turnover and, indeed sporting excellence. At the same time confirm our commitment to grow, develop, and provide a platform of sustainability for the next generations.

With regards to our turnover, we increased our bar sales and membership across the club. This was in part due to weather improvements and the increased use of our Membership card system. The new membership card system has helped, as did commercial revenue and of course the increased turnover at T20 and National / Lancashire Cup matches. Your management team will continue to examine options that will help support further increases in commercial activity. Further increases in the size of the footprint of the club are at this time proving financially difficult, but we will still look at options with grant aid over the next couple of years.

All our sections move on successfully thanks to the commitment of volunteers who never cease to amaze me with their overall commitment. Our potential development of Grimshaw’s with the Football Foundation and Bury Council are moving on at a pace, and we await further conversation and debate on progress.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Jepson, for his professional support to the development of our Tennis section and wish him every success in his new career in Padel.
This allows me to welcome Andrew Davies as our new Tennis coach; he will start his position this month. We all wish him every success.

Steve Lester has offered to help with both the bar rota and other bar related matters. Welcome Steve and thanks. The winter activities run by Ted and Ernie have kept interest in the club and I thank them both for their work. However, we need further progress on social activities which will allow us to increase our financial base.

It is important to note the loss of John Sinclair, a wonderful member which has hit the club very hard. Irreplaceable!

You will also note that Robert Goodman has decided to retire from his role as a Trustee. He has served the club for over 50 years and during that time his role, particularly during the 1970’s in keeping the Tennis Section alive was a measure of his commitment. Thank you for your help and support.

The Trustee’s have nominated Katy Carter has his replacement; this has been seconded by the Management Group.

Finally, can I remind everybody that opportunities exist to join our money raising options of the 250 club and Last Man Standing.

Brian Lorenzini – Chairman
