BLEZARD HAT-TRICK SINKS MOSTONIANS

Mostonians Reserves 1, Prestwich 5
Lancs Amateur League Division Two at The Lancaster Club, Failsworth
Saturday 5th December 2009

Striker John Blezard climbed off the bench and fired in a hat-trick as Prestwich moved in to third place in Division Two, just two points behind the leaders with three games in hand.

Looking to extend their winning league run to six games, manager Lee Metcalfe stuck with the same starting eleven that overcame Old Mancunians two weeks earlier and it proved effective as Prestwich started strongly against Mostonians.

Having already beaten the Lancaster Club based side 6-1 in the season opener back in August, the visitors were soon on their way to a similar result when Shaun Jackson found strike partner Sean Haslam on the edge of the box who sent an effort in to the bottom corner.

Unfortunately is was to be Jackson’s last contribution to the game as he then limped off with a knee injury to be replaced by Blezard.

And within a minute, the sub had made an impressive impact on the game as he slammed home Craig Howarth’s low cross in to the roof of the net from six yards.

After the break, Prestwich extended their lead further when Curtis ‘Tevez’ Ward bent a brilliant free kick in to the far corner from 25 yards.

On the hour, Blezard picked up the ball on halfway and as the defenders backed off, he cut inside and beat the ‘keeper from the edge of the box for his second and the visitors fourth.

Five minutes later the hat-trick was complete as Blezard sprang in behind the Mostonians defenders before calmly slotting home.

A mix up at the back gifted the home side an unlikely consolation but it shouldn’t take any of the gloss off another superb performance from Metcalfe’s title chasing side.

PFC: Hudson, Hopkins, Ward (1) (Woodcock), Lott, Steadman, Taylor, Howarth, Kosub, Haslam (1), Jackson (Blezard (3)), Roberts (Foley)

Prestwich Reserves continued their title drive with a 6-1 win over Thornleigh ‘B’ at Drinkwater Park. Goals from Mike Kirkley (2), a Carlo Balsamo hat-trick and Russ Turner’s penalty put Robbie Monetti’s team seven points clear at the top of Division Six.
