FIRSTS HIT TOP SPOT

Prestwich shot to the summit of Division One following this seven-nil rout of mid-table Ainsworth at Heys Road on Saturday.

Having plundered 20 goals without reply from their last three league games, Lee Metcalfe’s men have completely turned around their goal difference on rivals Hesketh Casuals to plus ten ahead of the two clubs key title clash in just two weeks time.

Midfielder Tom Walsh fired in off a post after just 12 minutes to set the home side on their way with Danny Smith nipping in to round the keeper shortly after to double the home side’s advantage.

An excellent passing move out of defence was finished in style by Martin Hill as he collected Sean Haslam’s return pass just five minutes later.

Haslam himself made it four just after the break before recent signing Joshua Taylor drove home his first for the club just after the hour.

Darren Buckley stole the ball of a defender to bring up Prestwich’s sixth with Lee Bushell bagging a rare headed goal with five minutes remaining to complete the scoring.

With Hesketh’s game falling foul of the wet weather, Prestwich moved in to top spot, a point ahead of their Southport based rivals ahead of next Saturday’s visit of Bolton Wyresdale to Heys Road. Kick off 2:30pm.

Prestwich Reserves game suffered a late call off following a failed midday pitch inspection at Bolton Ambassadors.

Prestwich ‘A’ Team continued their impressive run with a 3-1 win over Rossendale Amateurs D at Drinkwater Park.

The home side were by far the dominant team with lots of possession and set pieces but it was the visitors who took the early advantage as they capitalised on a mistake in the Prestwich midfield to cross from the left and convert at the near post.

The same theme continued after the break with the Rossendale goalie keeping his side in the game. Anthony Roberts fired his side level on the hour before he won himself a penalty just five minutes later which he unfortunately missed.

But Prestwich finally sealed the win with two late goals as Paul McGovern and then Paul O’Donnell found the Rossendale net to make it six straight wins for Craig Howarth’s men.

Prestwich Sunday team’s game at Duck Club also fell to a waterlogged pitch. Duck Club will be the visitors though next Sunday as the Millennium Cup takes centre stage with a place in the semi finals at home to Lizzy FC up for grabs.
