Pete Lorenzini won the toss and surprisingly to some elected to field. It seemed completely the wrong decision as league leaders Flowery raced to 95 without loss off 14 overs.
However Prestwich dug deep and fought back courageously. It was change bowlers Damon Montgomery and youngster Tom Gibson who started the comeback. Gibson struck first when he removed Dolan (44) caught behind by fellow youngster James Whamby.
Montgomery was in the grove hitting good areas from the off and he removed new batsman Eyre LBW and took the prize wicket of home skipper Alan Carter soon after following a Richard Scargill catch.
Gibson bowling a superb spell of line and length bowling then took the wicket of Patel, caught by Sean Haslam for just 1, leaving Flowery on 118 for 4 at the half way point.
Montgomery’s was bowling a really tight spell and was supported well by Lorenzini returning for his second spell. The pressure to score runs got to Dodd (13) who fired a drive to John Walters at long off, the vice still had plenty to do but held on to a superb catch off his skippers bowling. Lorenzini bowled danger man Philips soon after to leave the home side suddenly struggling somewhat on 148 for 6.
Montgomery (18-2-40-3) removed Lyon as a result of a Gibson (9-0-30-3) catch and the youngster replaced Lorenzini to take his own third wicket of the match again as a result of another simple Sean Haslam catch.
When the quick thinking Whamby ran out Riley to leave Flowery on 183-9 Prestwich were seemingly well on top but the Flowery tail dug in to finish on 209-9 from the 50 overs.
The visitors should have had a good chance of reaching the 210 winning target but an uncharacteristic poor batting display meant the first half fight back would ultimately prove worthless.
Prestwich began the run chase well enough reaching 40 without loss, however the loss of three quick wickets turned the game on its head. Richard Scargill (23) was first to go caught behind. Number 3 Jamie McAndrew could add just 4 before being bowled and Fiorentini (18) was caught at point to leave the score on 45 for 3.
Tom Gibson LBW 4 could not halt the slide but Jack Scargill and Sean Haslam put together a 53 run partnership to take the score to 117 for 4 to give Prestwich hope. Unfortunately Scargill (26) was then bowled and Haslam (42) caught at long on followed shortly after to leave the visitors in an unrecoverable mess on 120 for 6.
James Whamby batting at 7 again showed his considerable batting talent (11 not out) but he ran out of support. Montgomery LBW was Carter’s 5th victim, Walters and Lorenzini failed to trouble the scorers.
Prestwich were eventually bowled out for a disappointing 137 when Nick Carter was removed by Lyon.
