REPORT: OLD BLACKBURNIANS 1-0 PRESTWICH

Thursday October 29th 2015 | Football

Prestwich yet again went into a match with a depleted side but came away with some credit if no points.

Old Blackburnians, currently second in Division One, started the better of the two teams putting the Prestwich defence under pressure without really creating any clear cut chances in the opening salvos.

Prestwich started to get a grip on the game but also struggled to create any meaningful chances. The stalemate was broken on 24 minutes when a long ball from the Blackburn right evaded all the Prestwich defenders who had switched off to the presence of a Blackburn forward wide on the left. He took the ball on and chipped the on rushing Mike Hudson to open the scoring.

Thereafter Prestwich upped their game a little and tightened up at the back. They gradually started to exert some pressure and create a few half chances that were scorned.

Ten minutes before the break Prestwich were desperately unlucky not to draw level when David Prieto latched on to a loose ball from a corner and fired in a shot that had the keeper beaten all ends up only to cannon off a post.

The second half was almost entirely Prestwich with most of the possession and chances falling their way, but a combination of poor finishing, good defending and a couple of smart saves from the Blackburn keeper keeping them at bay.

With such a commitment to attack, Blackburn created a handful of half chances on the break which were dealt with relatively easily by the Prestwich defence.

Overall a lack of that final touch of quality when it mattered meant all the honest effort and endeavour from all the team was not rewarded with at least the point they fully deserved.
