HARIS IN A HURRY

Wednesday May 22nd 2019 | Cricket

Prestwich 2nd team kicked off their bid to reach a third successive cup final with a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Greenmount 2nds on Sunday.
Opener Haris Aziz struck a run-a ball 73 and Adam Taylor an unbeaten 55 as they yielded an opening stand of 142, in pursuit of a 170-run target, which was then surpassed with the help of 24 not out from Nathan Bailey.
Greenmount had earlier made a spirited recovery from 84 for 8 with the last two partnerships doubling to the total, after Lewis Jarvis struck early with 3 for 16 and skipper Peter Lorenzini claiming 4 for 41.
On Saturday, the 2nds found Shaw 1sts too good who racked up 286 all out. The 2nds could only make 108 in reply, with Tom Scott top scoring on 29.
The 1st team suffered defeat at the hands of Bury rivals Woodbank on Saturday, despite a captain’s innings of 77 from Sam Holden when his side plunged to 17 for 3. A total of 177 was below par, but the visitors looked in a spot of bother when Andy Bradley grabbed three middle-order wickets, including Lowen for 55, to leave them at 117 for 6. But that was Prestwich’s last success as 37 not out from Lewis McIntosh and 23 not out from Chris Read steered them to the target with 11 balls to spare.
Prestwich Heat also found Clifton too hot to handle on Friday in their T20 clash at The Heys, scoring 128 for 6 off 20 overs, James Wharmby making 42 not out.
But Clifton lost just 3 wickets in their successful pursuit.
