Chairman’s Annual Report 2020/2021

Sunday January 30th 2022 | Club

Following on from my delayed report in May 2021, I again offer my condolences to anybody who has lost relatives and friends through this horrendous period.

The Club financially is still in an envious position, due in part, to Government financial support administered locally by Bury Council and the support of our wonderful members and sponsors. Heather, as part of her report will highlight the financials and I will concentrate on matters pertaining to our future and the wonderful effort behind the scenes by our volunteers.

Our demanding plans to assist our future sustainability are progressing forward and today I can highlight them. We are awaiting the result of a grant application for circa £90k with Viridor that covers a retractable roof over part of the patio area which can be accessed from the main room and a larger replacement to the aging Swallow Lodge. In addition, the club is assessing quotes for protecting both the Tennis Courts and the Bowling Green from cricket balls hit during matches. The other major change will be the development of the Shanty Town of garages adjoining our entrance which hopefully will pass planning later this month. The development will produce 18 apartments and a new road alongside the Metrolink boundary.

There is a plan in the Members lounge that highlights clearly the benefits to the club.

All our sections are very active and successful. Their individual reports will be available at the AGM. Club membership figures are circa 650 including over 300 juniors. We are indeed fortunate to have many volunteers but there is always room for more. Join in, it is massively rewarding.

We are moving forward with the Grimshaws improvement plan with the support of Bury Council and the Football Foundation. If possible, in the future, we want to increase our car parking with additional space on Grimshaws.

Can I take this opportunity to welcome Helen Hinchliffe as our new President a role she will fill with great energy.

Finally, I am banging the drum AGAIN about joining our 250 club at £4 per month with prizes covering 50% of the money taken.
